THE BURNING THISTLE

line 3.png

St. Albans, notedly, has the largest and most intact collections of Roman history and its ruins have become a land mark for the city. Whilst this has been one of St. Albans greatest attractions it’s museums do not tell the other side of the story.

The old city Verulamium, was a prosperous Celtic town, turned Roman trade point, a place that was stolen from Queen Boudica. Who, in turn, laid siege to the city, what remains from the fires now lies in Verulamium Park, where the event is hosted.

The Burning Thistle re-imagines history through the Celtic lens. The screen-printing effect and stencil typeface is derived from their art but has more of a modern and simple graphic style. The Bonfire event takes inspiration from Celtic fire festivals, providing food and activities whilst learning the other side of history.
